that restaurant tonight on Kitchen Nightmares……guh.
last night was Curriculum Night at Otto’s school. I signed up to go in once a week and read with the kids (it’ll only involve minor tweakage of my work schedule). I also volunteered to help at the planetarium field trip. (Hey, I like the planetarium.)

take your aim, what a frame!

Otto’s first Saturday of league bowling was on Saturday. It went well; he’s going to be one of the youngest kids (if not the youngest).
The first two Saturdays they just bowl to set their personal average. Then Peg (who runs the alley) creates the teams. She mixes gender and age, [...]

go here.
download everything.
enjoy sweet mashupy goodness.
(is it just me or does everyone use “We Love You” by the Rolling Stones in their mashups? not that I’m complaining.)
and Dad- I hated the USDA because we have clients who got a mortgage through the Rural Division and we had to jump through hoops to get a payoff [...]

the guy at the info desk hated me, I’m sure

Me, at Barnes & Noble this evening:
“Hi, I’m looking for a book. I don’t remember what it’s called, but the author’s first name is Tom. The main character has amnesia, and he gets a big money settlement, and he populates an apartment building with people and makes them re-enact certain events? I’d [...]

so, to sum up

I have a cold, I hate the USDA, the guy on Kitchen Nightmares was a total ass.

conquistadors WHO TOOK THEIR SHARE

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Otto starts his bowling league on Saturday. We were kind of wondering what to do about the bowling shoe situation – while buying him shoes is expensive, renting them every week would be even more. I dinked around the web a bit to try and find them in his size (kid 13) but they all [...]

FINALLY

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Lithium (the 90’s alternative station on Sirius radio) finally played the Nine Inch Nails song I referenced in this entry. It’s “Dead Souls”.

boomety boom boom

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

We had the window open slightly last night, and about 7am this morning I awoke to BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. I couldn’t tell what it was – wasn’t thunder, wasn’t transformers going off (I’d heard that during the 1991 Ice Storm) – it was weird.
Turns out it was this.
We watched Fatherland tonight. [...]

honesty is the best policy

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

I really do not want to admit this. Some things are just better kept private, under wraps. You say things on the Internet, they come back to haunt you. It always happens. But yet I foolishly plow along.

I finally got around to watching that Britney Spears VMA brou-ha-ha.
1. If Britney Spears is fat, I’d hate to hear what people say about me.
2. I could probably put more effort into a dance routine than she.
3. Man, that song is annoying.

an hour a day. tops.

Otto missed the bus today. Nobody’s fault in particular; we all just kinda slacked off a little too much and as he was finishing tying his sneakers I saw the bus pull away from the stop. Oops. Fortunately I was able to drive him to school and then drive to work.
He has a birthday part [...]

okay, that was amusing

I’m sitting inside at my computer. I just sneezed and our next door neighbor (outside, on the opposite side of the property from where I’m sitting) said “bless you!”
I thanked him, and he said “you’re welcome!”

heh

library musings

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

So the big hooptydoo (or one of them, anyway) in our town is the library situation. There’s West Whitneyville and East Whitneyville. Both have libraries. Both libraries suck. There was a proposal to combine the two sucky libraries into one big new bright shiny happy non-sucky library in the middle. [...]

well…

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

the bus dropped that kid off down the street at about 3:20. That’s a bit of progress, I s’pose.

gah

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

So Otto is supposed to be dropped off, across the street, at 3:30pm. So I mosey over across the street about that time.
Ten minutes later, I see his bus coming – from the wrong direction. It blows past the stop, and stops further down to let a kid off. I proceed to [...]

OMFG (#2 in a series of at least 13, hopefully)

Otto gets home from FIRST GRADE in about half an hour.

I *tried* posting a message on Friday saying I was going to visit the Connecticut Contingent, but it wouldn’t let me publish it.
So yeah, I was in the Nutmeg State this weekend. It was fun, as it always is, except I now have an obsession with “Wind It Up” by Gwen Stefani (more songs [...]
